Our Objectives:
Gramavidya was established
with the following objectives:
- Development of simple and appropriate technologies oriented towards rural development. These technologies must
- Increase rural self reliance;
- Improve energy use efficiency;
- Avoid environmental degradation and
- Reduce economic disparities.
- To carry out field testing and demonstration of new technologies developed;
- To disseminate new technologies through the existing educational infrastructure in villages;
- To develop alternative educational systems;
- To impart training to rural youth in appropriate technologies;
- Publication of books, monographs and newsletters related to these technologies, especially
in Kannada and possibly in other regional languages;
Target Area:
Gramavidya
is a national level resource organisation. It primarily operates in the Bangalore
rural district of Karnataka but networks with likeminded regional organisations all over India.
The
Programmes:
1. Development and Field testing of appropriate technologies;
2. Dissemination of appropriate technologies through publications, awareness programmes and training both urban and rural areas;
3. Capacity building and HRD of rural communities especially women and youth,
4. Promotion of Appropriate Technology based micro-enterprises
5. Interaction with rural schools;
Achievements:

dissemination of Stabilised mud block technology all over the country;

Dissemination of energy efficient wood burning stoves and related technologies;

Dissemination of biogas technologies;
¨
Facilitation of an innovative model of entrepreneurship in Housing delivery;
¨
Training and capacity building of victims of natural disasters in Marathawada, Orissa and Kutch;
¨
Publication of booklets on stabilised soil block technologies.
Future Plans:
- Establishment of a full fledged technology resource centre for cost effective housing technologies;
- Programmes on sustainable agriculture and watershed development;
- Rural Entrepreneurship programmes based on Appropriate Technology based micro enterprises for school dropouts
and youth;
- Promotion of traditional health systems;
- Promotion of alternative education systems.
